Wavetrac ATBs are designed and manufactured in America. Their use of high strength, hardened American steel and excellent standards of quality control means they can be confident in offering a lifetime warranty. The casings are designed from forged and billet steel, which is then hardened. All internal gears are made from high strength 9310 steel. ARP fasteners are used to ensure that maximum strength is maintained throughout the whole differential.
Wavetrac differentials have varying torque bias ratios depending on what suits the vehicle they are designed for. When one wheel starts spinning, the ‘wave’ device applies resistance across the differential. This slows the spinning wheel and transfers torque to the wheel on the ground. When both wheels return to a similar speed, the load across the differential is reduced back to the normal level. Their helical design ensures that the differential is smooth, but unlike other ATBs power can still be transferred through one wheel whilst the other is in the air.
Handling is greatly improved with a Wavetrac differential as more torque can be transferred to the ground under fast cornering. This ensures a faster and tighter turn, and a huge improvement in vehicle stability. Traction from a standing start is improved as more torque can be transferred to the ground without the risk of one wheel spinning. This has huge traction benefits to powerful rear wheel drive vehicles such BMWs or Mercedes.
